Akanne: a Non-Governmental Organisation Promotes Technology Applications in Africa.

Akanne Systems is a non-governmental technology organisation that promotes the use of technology in Africa. In 2016, the organisation was shortlisted as best encouraging ICT company in Nigeria. Their site was suspended in the following year which lead to a break in about two years. It was later resuscitated in late 2018.

The continuous advances in technology have led to the appearance of numerous new methods of electronic communication, such as social networking websites, emails, voicemails, and video conferences.

It has changed education in so many ways. First, technology has expanded the access to education and there are huge amounts of information (books, images, videos, audio) that are available through the Internet and that will enable you to empower yourself with knowledge. In addition, online courses are on the rise and most of them are free.

The majority of the hospitals today have implemented modern technology in hospitals and surgical rooms, which has significantly reduced the mistakes made by doctors, nurses, lab scientist and so on.

Modern transportation technology has made it easier for individuals to travel long distances. Since transport is an important part of our lives, technology has been regularly working on making it more efficient and quicker. Technology can be applied in all aspect of life and that is what Akanne stands to promote in Africa.

The founder and CEO, Mr. Patrick Ugwu II (popularly known as Uncle Pat) is a technology teacher who has been in the business of teaching technology applications since 2004. He has sponsored different computer training programmes free of charge, some at a very reduced rate. He is currently working at OSISATECH Polytechnic Enugu as the ICT Representative.

Pat Ugwu II is also a blogger of technology application and he writes about different ways technology can be applied. Recently, he launched an online institution called Akanne Academy. The institution is a STEMI institution that focused on science, technology, engineering, mathematics and igbo-language.
